Selkirk

A stellar day in Selkirk! We started at Elliott and Sons,  a historic weaving mill making Tweed and tartan with Victorian equipment and techniques.  Robin, the current owner, shared with us history,  stories, knowledge, time and bon homie. A photo of a tartan warp being created,  and one of a machine to twist several yarns together into a new one.

Selkirk is an old town built on the side of a hill. Stairs,  hills and climbs up and down were features of the day. Here's Blue walking through an old mideval close.

In Jedburgh (pronouced Jedburra), a house Mary Queen of Scots is purported to have inhabited in 1566 while she was still Queen and prior to her incarceration and execution by Queen Elizabeth 1.

Another unicorn on the town center mercat cross.

Jedburgh Abbey ruins. This is our third of the four abbeys on the Abbey Way through the Borders. When King David 1 took the throne he brought a number of French monastic communities to the region. We've seen Benedictine, Cistercian, and this is Augustinian.  It's stunning how this stone building can appear so light.
